Chromebook for backing up photos while traveling. Good idea?

When I travel I don't use my laptop to edit photos, I use it to make backups of my photos to external hard drives.
With that in mind, here is my question, have anyone any experiences with chromebooks for such a use?
My current laptop is way too heavy, and getting a bit old so I will need to replace it.
