I also have the well known problem with the strobing flash on my D700. My fist thought was that my pocketwizard TT5 is defective, after this, my SB-900 started strobing, than SB-800, another SB-800, another SB-800 to find out that this is a well known problem. My D600 will arrive in 30 days, so I need a temporary fix for this issue before the camera is sent to the service. Do you know any temorary fix for this well known issue?
I've had to replace the hotshoe assembly on my D300. It's an easy repair for Nikon or Nikon Authorized Service.
One workaround is to use the flash off camera. With my camera, the hotshoe did not work but the pop up flash did work - as did off camera flash using the pop-up flash as the commander.
Two D700's, two SB900's two hotshoe problems...once fixed, second just dealing with it using the dslr for ambient lighting. Problem? two screws on the underside of the hotshoe coming loose.
