How to change your profile picture (Avatar):

Just go to http://en.gravatar.com/ and register your email address that was used for registration on this forum and upload a picture. This will enable your avatar for every WordPress blog (that has gravatar enabled), every bbpress forum and many others. Just make sure you use the same email, otherwise the magic will not work.

Also, if one goes to the bottom of the main page of the forum, you should find your name in the lower right corner.  Click on this, you should now see your profile.  Under where the photo or avatar goes is another link Change My Picture.  Bu clicking here it should allow you to find a photo in your computer photo site and download to NRF.  See if this works and let us know.

My picture just appeared automatically.  I take it that happened because I use it on Flickr?  Maybe Yahoo too.

It's not grayed out for me...(also on an iPad).

Now I suppose I have to buy an iPad.  I do think there are some differences and on an iPhone.

Okay, my turn to be em-bare-assed.  Still greyed out on iPad, but works fine on a real computer.

You are right, I do use gravatar but I forgot - duh!
