Most Canadian stores are carrying the D600 kit deal until January 9 - would be nice to know more about the D300 and/or D7000 update before that date.
Wouldn't it just be nice to know what the next month or so holds for us prospective Nikon buyers?
I have been saving for about 6 months now, knowing the D7000 replacement is on the way. My old D3000 backup needs replacing and a DX body that is a more recent generation than my D7000 would be welcome.
I think I have come to terms with never being able to afford a D4 of my own and will continue to borrow a kit from work when I need it... :-/
D600 kit deal is a good one but I wish somebody, anybody, would do body-only well below $2K. Lens is going for $600-ish in NYC and $550-ish+tax in Canada and then there are the pack-in goodies besides (memory card, tripod, mic, whatever). I'm not saying I'd need the whole amount off the top but is it really too much to ask for the body only near $1600? I'm one-handed so I basically shoot primes only and even if I could use the 24-85 the reviews haven't been overwhelming. I would probably prefer to go without and save up for 24-120 or 24-70, both of which have been exceptionally well received.
May just buy it and try to sell the lens on Ebay, but it'd be nice to avoid. Or I could wait until February and see what the market brings us (high-end DX, or a D600 price break). I'm looking for a good camera to convert to IR-only, as Infrared has fascinated me for a long time.... If anybody sees body-only, please advise.
bjrichus: D4-level technology will be in our price range in 3-4 years. D2X (February 2005, 12.2 MP, DX format, 5fps, iso 100-3200) cost $5K at launch or so. How much better it is than the D5000 (April 2009) is an open question. I'm going to be patient.

Hmm... 3-4 years? I bet by then, we'll all be using FX sensor mirrorless compacts with 500,000 ISO speeds and no perceptible noise. D600... Pah! :-)
Took your advice on colorspace for my Antarctica trip, adamz-- excellent call on your part, thank you. Other people were lugging laptops and I almost felt sorry for them. Since I wanted to spend my time shooting and not editing (I have all winter to edit) I didn't miss the laptop at all.
PeachPit has a deal of 35% off 1st book and 45% off 2 or more books deal til 6th Jan 2013. Head over to order yours if you are interested in any of their selection!
