Sorry to have offended you. You mentioned "fixed ap", so that ruled out a variable aperture. I wanted to point out that a fixed aperture at f/4.0 really gets mighty large (FX or DX; it hardly matters...). It was not my intention to falsify what you had written, and I apologize for this. An aperture of 5.6 has been done before and it does not constitute an outsized lens. A full stop more on a long lens, though, just means that it becomes 2.5 to 3 times heavier and likely at least two times more expensive.

    Peace?

I would love to see the following DX lens:

Update of the Nikkor 17-55mm F/2.8 with VRIII or
New Nikkor 17-70mm F/2.8 or F/3.5 with VRIII
New Nikkor 23mm F/1.8 with VRIII
New Nikkor 300mm F/4 with VRIII
    and perhaps a new Nikkor 17mm - 105mm F/3.5 or 4 with VRIII

Of course, release the D400 first with one of these lens and then follow with the balance within a reasonable time.

Peace, Meinrad. I overreacted and I apologise. Thank you for expanding on your thoughts. I flew off the handle and I'm sorry.
