Yes the old venerable Nikon compatible Fuji s5pro..
Thought it deserved a thread ... (for people to reminisce and extol its virtues)
Anyway While researching the D600 which I was considering getting, I found a review comparing the D600 with the S5pro.. Thought it was worth a giggle to read .. I have the s5pro and i think its awesome. Its good someone else thinks so too .. :-)
I will need to take the old gal out for a spin :-) ..

I was always curious about the Fuji S5pro. Seems like a pretty awesome camera, although it's not for everyone, kind of like how the D800e isn't for everyone as well.
For a DX camera that was a peer to the D200, being able to beat the current FX cameras in several of its specs is stunning. such a shame that this line was abandoned.. it would be so incredible if the new Fuji X1-Pro XTrans Cmos DX sensor got into the mythical D400 body.
In the High ISO tests on DP review, to my eyes this XTrans DX sensor beats the D600 handily and equals the D4. and in RAW it beats both these top FX sensors handily ! And the DR ? Its off the charts ! literally!
Even if Fuji puts that sensor in a D7100 body(or even the D7000) it would be an awesome awesome kit !

"Highlights and white come in so many flavors with the D-RANGE cranked up that you'll want to shoot brides on glaciers." Thom Hogan review of the S5pro
After 6 years - Looks like that is still the case. !

One of my fav from my old s5pro .. that faint skyline would have been lost in a normal camera.. Had to pull it back in post ..

After looking at the s5pro and lamenting that Fuji never brought out a successor to it .. I realised that they did in fact bring out a successor to it. its the X-Pro1 ! I have been seriously considering getting an X-E1 with a couple of lenses as a second camera or carry everywhere camera...
However, It got me thinking that @MSMoto may be right ! the successor to the D300S may be a Mirror-less just like the X-Pro1 ! The time frame between the S5pro and the X100 one is almost exactly the same as the D300S and the Coolpix A. and if its announced in the next month or so then it would be a similar time frame to the X-Pro1 !

I always liked the Fuji s5pro and looked into getting one to convert to IR due to the dynamic range as shooting IR highlight clipping is an issue. I always thought it was a great sensor design as it was actually 2 6mp sensors that was combined. There were many similar styles of sensors like the s5's deployed in their digi cams. The X-trans sensor is a much different sensor design though. What is really great to see is that although at low ISOs Fuji's sensors performed beyond anything else until the ISO got above the native setting. Then the noise and just overall IQ was a major issue and other brands would surpass them with ease. That is what is great about Fuji's new sensors now.
I have taken photos with the xpro1 and the X-e1 and the same shot with my D800 and a stores D600 at high isos and the D800/600 were clearly better in raw and jpeg even before resizing. That said, it wasn't by too much and certainly good enough for personal use. Fuji's noise cleaned up with real ease just like my X100, but details are lost quickly. That is where the D800/d600 really beat them is in the details. Depending on what you are shooting though, it may not matter. I would not fear having one as a back-up or a 2nd rig for the event stuff I shoot.
I keep bouncing between Fuji or Olympus EM5 and decided to wait for the next gen of each before I outlay $2-3k for a complete additional system. (body, grips, 3 batteries, UV filters, 35,50,90 f1.4/8 and a large full range zoom.) I love Oly's focus and am disappointed with Fuji's and that is the only thing that keeps me from choosing Fuji as I love the sensor and lenses much more. I actually played with a N1 V2 with the 32mm f1.2 and that could even get me over the Fuji due to speed. Although the files are not as good as either the Oly or Fuji, the N1 V2 is a fun little camera that is a joy to use. They hit the nail on the head with everything but the sensor size for me. That 32mm f1.2 has creamy bokeh though! Gorgeous lens. If they made a 35 & 50 equiv I would go that route in a second.
I think the D400 will be announced this week.. Why? Cos I have ordered a Fuji X-E1 with the 18-55 F2.8-4 !
Will probably be selling a bunch of nikon stuff to consolidate my gear !
I always liked to carry 2 cameras when shooting.. This Fuji kit would be a great light "general use" kit and together with my nikon gear I may get to use my 12-24 or 200-400(Tamron 5.6) or Sigma 150 Macro and soon to arrive 70-200F4 more often as I really don't like to change lenses in the field.
I think the next Gen of the Fuji will be a cracker! I know a few good togs that have swapped totally to Fuji Mirrorless from Nikon gear. I think Nikon will be going that route real soon. The big advantage Nikon has over Fiji and other Mirrorless is If they can somehow get their mirrorless to be fully functional with all their Nikkor AFS lenses!

LOL - I have that type of stuff happen all the time as well. An Oly rep told me to hold off till September on an EM-5 since a new "Pro" series camera is going to be released. Also said that a few new lenses and black versions will be released as well. I went into my local shop for a 43" umbrella and a new lens pen and was there playing with the Oly with their rep for an hour. Fuji rep was there as well and I played with it a bit as well.
I have a hard time seeing many pros move to the M4/3 and Fuji due to their limitations at this time. IMHO I think their IQ is at a Nikon/Canon DX flagship level where I don't see much if any difference at all, but they do fall quite short yet against FX on various levels. That is speaking from a point of view of getting paid for work where the advantages of the DX/FX systems offer the most opportunity for getting shots. Rarely do I miss out of shots due to my D800 (overheating flashes/filling buffers aside) but just the short time in shooting both the Oly and Fuji the systems prevented me from getting shots that I know I could have made with my Nikon. I do have to say the Oly IQ is equal to my D300 and the Fuji was much, much better. Especially at high ISOs.
Although I will probably get one, I could never fully swap due to a couple of things mostly due to the refinement of Nikon and Canon systems: Flash control, Autofocus (on the extremes of the spectrum, tracking type), tricky metering, resolution & really high ISO detail. They are good but just not at the same level that I have gotten so use to, that I notice the "hiccups" like a pimple on the end of someone's nose. That said, I really dislike taking my "work" camera for friend/family stuff due to the size seems to scare people.
Hey guys, Any good website where I can buy this from?

I had both the S3Pro and the S5Pro and were great cameras. They were renowned for their excellent skin tones for studio work, sadly they did ont have RAW capability The S5pro came out about the same time of the Nikon D200 and apart from the sensor were identical. There are loads of used ones on Ebay Uk ranging fron £ 50 00 to £500 00 average being £ 250 00. At the end of the day they are old technology, campared to todays cameras.
Raw ? They surely do have raw capability ... yes of course they are old tech but for a 10 year old camera its really amazing that in some criteria they still beat most current DSLRs :-)

I saw the Xpro2 on a photographer a couple of days ago.. had a nice chat .. he thinks its great he really likes it! He had the S5pro too then some pentax DSLRs and the X100 which he likes. He didn't like the Fuji X pro and the Xt1 the liked a bit better. But he really likes the Xpro2.
I considered considering it for a second ;-) but if I were to get a new DSLR it will be the D500 :-)
