Fair price for D40 and two lenses.

Recently I've decided to try and sell an old (but in nice shape) D40, 2 lenses (AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 3.5-5.6GII ED & AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm 4-5.6G ED), and Nikon camera bag. Considering that you can get a refurbished D3100 and the VR version of the 18-55mm for $350, I was thinking of selling the D40/two-lens combo for $250-300. What do you guys think? Is that fair? Someone has already expressed interest in buying when I initially told them around $300. This person is a beginner, and I think this would be a great starter camera, but I don't want to rip anyone off. Thanks!

On amazon they have new for $479.99 kit, used for $160, refurbished for$280 (do not know if the used/refurbished are kits). I think you are close with the 2 lenses.

One of my brothers has the same kit and shows no signs of wanting to upgrade when I offer him my newer gear - he's happy with his D40. I'd say the chance to own the 18-55, 55-200 and D40 for $250 is still an OK deal for a starter on a budget - if he isn't on a budget, then I'd say he should look at the 3100 and VR at $350.

I share your desire to not rip anybody off so whether you go 250 or 300 is a matter for your conscience.
    Always learning.

Watch them on ebay and see what they sell for.

Agree with donaldejose, check eBay. When you run your search, be sure to check the box for closed auctions. That way you don't have to look at ones that closed and did not sell.

$200 for the body and $100 for both lenses sounds about right.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Sounds like I was pretty close, but I'll give ebay another look, using @Photobug's advice this time.
