With the D4 virtually halfway through it's production life [ average 4 years} Is this the time to buy the D4 Apologies to our American cousins prices are in pounds sterling.

Retail Nikon Price Uk £5289.00
Uk Official retailers Price £4220 00
Grey Market Price £3450 00
In the Uk we only get 2 years warranty if bought from official sources

Now this camera is starting to look good at these prices compared to the new Nikon Retro DF.

My recommendation would be to buy the D4....if the body offers you what you seek. For me the price is irrelevant. Much like comparing the D4 to the Nikon Df. These two bodies are in totally different categories and usage.

I bought the D4 3 months ago to go with my D800e. I find the D4 is used more than the D800e and is my carry around camera.
One word of wisdom, do not buy a grey import....

There will always be a better camera in the future.
Perhaps in 2 years Nikon will release a D5.
    Perhaps in a year we'll see a D4X.
Perhaps in 25 years we'll see a D10 with 80megapixels and low noise up to iso 200.000.

Unless the limits of what physics allows are reached or technological improvements become prohibitatively expensive we will continue to see an increase in the capacitiets of our camera's.
But that doesn't make the camera that you have any less good.

If the D4 is the camera that you want and if the price is right then go and buy it.
Don't worry about new camera's, don't worry about price drops (and reduced "resale value) when a new model is released.
Just enjoy your hobby and keep using your camera until it finally stops working or your really need a new camera.
The D4 is a beautiful piece of technology and should be everything you need for many many many years to come.
    At least, that's my philosophy...
