    Thanks for that list @ADE .. however I would modify that slightly and factor in the AA filter.. thus the best "reach" would go to the D7100 and D5300 and the D800E may be above the D7000 ..

    For a bit of perspective it would be interesting to add in the D70 6mp

    @coastalconn : "My main lens is a SIgma 120-300 F2.8 OS (non sport), I have a Sigma 150-500 OS (pretty much won it in a KEH photo contest) and I preordered the Tamron 150-600. I plan on shocking some people with the results"

    +++1 !

    Looking forward to seeing your opinion of the new Tamron !

    Coastalconn..really nice bird pictures. The D7100 with those lens are giving you some excellent pictures. I will be back to your Flicer account to check future postings.

    I look forward to seeing your postings when you get your new Tamron 150-600mm lens. Check my signature block to understand why. I have seen some nice pictures of BIF with the Sigma 150-500 and with what I have read, the improvements to the Tamron tele lens should really improve their sales.

    FYI, my 150-500mm is for sale locally and next weekend it goes on eBay. I noticed the higher IQ on the D7100 when I made the switch from the D300. It's a fantastic camera.

    @heartyfisher and @Photobug Thank you :) I don't mean to sound cocky, but I seem to have a track record of getting the most bang for the buck. I spent all summer shooting a Tokina 300 F2.8 that I got for $450. Now there is a huge demand for that lens, lol...

    @Photobug, The 200-500 was my first long lens and I have very fond memories of it. When I started out with birds everyone basically said it was a "junk" lens, but I managed a top 100 in the Audubon Magazine contest and won Photo of the year on The Photo Forum.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/coastalconn/7873321916/ Probably one of the most viewed (and Stolen) images on facebook, lol..

    One of my favorite sets ever was the Red Tail that decided to have a bunny right next to me.. with the Tamron 200-500 http://www.flickr.com/photos/coastalconn/sets/72157632626570024/

    So I sort of have a vendetta against all these online trolls (that never have a gallery) to prove you don't need a 20K setup to produce great images. There is one bugging me in the NR post about the 150-600. "Neversink" I believe is their name..

    I really miss the speed and controls of the D300, but I can't argue with the results of the sensor on the 24mp sensor on the D7100... I just did a mini blog on my FB page.. lol.. https://www.facebook.com/KristoferRowePhotography

    Nice images. You are entitled to your vendetta. I have added you to my Flickr "following" list and made your winner my favorites.

    While I am sure a few photos would have been hit, a little nicer or easier with better equipment, it shows that with basic equipment for the job, 90% of success is determined by the photographer.

    Thanks for sharing. Lots of great pictures and I too added your to my "following" list. Great example that you don't have to have the Nikon 500mm to get excellent pictures. Really enjoyed your pictures, especially the fish in the air and bunny shot.
