D800E Broken 10 Pin Connector

Last month I reported a broken 10 pin connector on my month old D800E, this happened while gently attempting to couple a MC-30 remote shutter release cable. Well I sent the camera back to Nikon service on 12-23-12, given the holiday week involved I am rather impressed with the speed at which they turned it around. I will receive it tomorrow, Nikon shipped it overnight air via UPS. The camera was repaired under warranty, the only cost which I endured is the ship to insured $72.
I sure hope that the fix will remedy the problem and this camera doesn't fail again.

My guess, only a guess, is that Nikon has seen several of these and done a repair so as to prevent a recurrence of the issue.

If the post on the old forum was any indication, this is a well known issue. Maybe not wide spread, but it is a common issue.

Well the camera has been returned, I had UPS reroute to a distribution center as I had read in one of these forums that they don't insure their shipments, and what I read is exactly true, Nikon did not insure the camera for the return trip, can't imagine the argument had UPS lost the camera on the way. As for the repair it works, did they change the design to prevent a repetition of the failure only time will tell, but it sure is nice to have my 800 back.

Nikon is essentially self-insured for their own equipment. Think about it. If UPS looses it they'll replace your camera, which they will pull out of inventory. It's actually good business. Why should they pay to insure something they can replace just as easily in the unlikely event it is lost.

I would not want to test that theory Ironheart, Calling Nikon service and attempting to make a claim stating that someone must have stolen the box off the front porch. When I picked up the camera at UPS I asked, there was no signature required, so the driver would have left it on the front porch of the condo.

The first step is to file the claim with UPS. Once they 'fess up to a non-delivery, the claim with any vendor is easy. BTDT :-( when was the last time any vendor insured a shipment to you? Amazon? B&H? They assume the risk.

@marpater Sorry this may have been discussed elsewhere, but what exactly is the 'broken 10pin connector' problem please? I use this for remotes/GPS etc. on my D800 and, as yet, haven't had a problem.
