Not having ever used Canon. And not seeing any advantage to Canon...why do most sports people seem to use Canon? Is there a certain lens out there or something they have that makes people want to use them?

I think, although I'm not sure, at one time Canon offered a superior focusing system, which made it the favorite of sports shooters. As we all know, once you get hooked into one of these brands it gets very expensive to switch, except for the very few who are 100% sponsored.

Canon has had USM autofocus since 1987. Their supertelephoto lenses were the first to have fast and accurate focusing, with superior optical performance. Nikon did not begin to develop AF-S until nearly a decade later. They also lagged behind in IS/VR development, with Canon's implementations typically having more effectiveness and flexibility. Even now, many people shooting either system agree that Canon has long had the advantage in lens technology.

Another reason, historically Canon has had more telephoto lens options.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
