Mhedges - I think that soccer is a terrific photography event, especially of your children or grand kids. Our son played soccer for 9 years and took very few photos since they recruited parents to be "side judge". When they found out I was a runner and a good side judge that ended my photographing our son playing soccer.

Mark, so how is the Z6 for photographing soccer games? It's nice to see quality images like the previous one with a high shutter speed shot at f/2.8 so the subject stands out from the background. Is she a Wing player or defense?

Photobug - I would say it's "fine". I have no complaints. Get more good images than I need; sure, there are some focus misses but still I'm pleased.

Part of the problem is that I'm trying to watch the game and photograph too. So I miss shots because I'm watching. I'm sure I could do better if I concentrated more on just taking pics.

Yes I like the narrow DOF the 70-200 2.8 gives. Typically the background for these games is very busy and you need all the separation you can get. I also have the 70-300 AF-P lens, which I use sometimes, but I miss the speed of the 2.8 and I find I get better AF results with it too.

She mostly plays striker; but they do move her around. Here she is in black shorts and leggings - this is one of the only decent shots of her I got from the aborted Spring season. Fall season starts soon; I'm hoping it's able to go on.

Yea that is a problem, trying to watch the game and take photos at the same time. Keep taking those pictures, the next thing you know she will be in high school and then leaving home. So enjoy them and my final words of wisdom...the big changes are just around the corner. Our daughter changed significantly during her 9th grade year of school until she graduated from HS. That is when she started challenging her Mom and I became the peace maker.

Those two lens are good for soccer games, agree with you about creating the separation between the player and the background.
