I have pretty much kept my autofocus lock in the middle setting. Yesterday I changed it to Long for capturing bikes in motion after reading that it works great for BIF.
I believe this has improved a bit. From off to long what are some scenarios to use them for. For example for baseball, soccer what would you set it to.
While the manual gives explanations to me they are generic and I can understand them better with actual photos like in
BIF thread.
For the following photo I my settings AF/ON AF-C 9 point normally I pick single point but I was trying different things.

Here it is Focus Tracking with Lock on
I tried this again. This time a biker went thru the legs of the Flamingo statue in chicago.
I took 3 pics and 2/3 came out focused. I just need to improve my tracking. I had moved the camera to the spot where I beleive he would emerge after he cleared one of the legs. Once I can I will upload pics to flickr.
