Give us a clue as to your experience in photography and a little about the camera - like how long have you owned it? Have you got the manual? Have you read it? Do a two button reset and try again. Failing that, here are some suggestions - be a little more communicative with your reply than you were with your question so we don't waste our lives asking you things you should already have tried and listed as tried.
Have you got timer mode enabled? What make and specification are the cards? What image quality mode is the camera in? Have you tried it in other smaller file size qualities like jpeg basic? What exposure mode are you in? Put it in manual and set the shutter speed to max, aperture wide open and lens cap on. Any difference? Does it have a self timer mode? Is it enabled?
It is very difficult for to work out what is wrong, from the limited information you have given us has your D700 suddenly developed this fault or is it a S/H camera "new" to you

The two button reset would be your best bet.
