Has anyone tried the new TC-14E III teleconverter and compared it to the TC-14E II

Yes it was a good review on the TC's. For sure I will wait to see if the TC-14EII or 14EIII is listed on the compatibility chart for the new 300mm F4 lens. My hunch it will be the newer model.

The post man delivered yet another gold box today, in it, was my new 1.4E III TC. Needless to say, I quickly mounted it on my 200 F2 and gave it a go.

A very close family friend showed up and before he knew it he turned out to be my test subjects. The image below are of for your examination.

I can say, without hesitation, that this new 1.4E III TC is outstanding, thus it is a must having if you seek the additional 40% reach, yet not willing to give up any performance in speed and image quality. Well done Nikon.

Here are some sample image without it for comparison.

Thanks for sharing Ali. I do have a complaint, is it looks way to warm in San Diego. It's not right to take pictures the end of December and the subject is in a polo shirt. :D It was 24 degrees here today and is 12 right now. :\">
I am looking forward to the announcement at CES for the new 300mm F4. I expect the new 1.4 III TC will be specified instead of the 1.4x II TC. Enjoy the warm weather.

Ali, have you done the AF fine tune with the 200/2 and 200/2 with TC-14EIII?

No I have not. But so from the test shots that I have done, I have not seen any need for it.

Would you recommend the TC 14e III for the 80-400G for shooting sports and wildlife on a D7100? I already have the lens and body and wonder if the $500 for the teleconverter is worth the 160mm of extra reach? How would this perform with auto focus and sharpness? If any one could up samples or attest to this particular combo it would be greatly appreciated.

I just saw this thread. PhotoLife did a comparison of the tc-14EII and tc-14eIII. Click here

@jspann23 having tried the tc-17 on the 70-200 I enjoyed the reach but not the IQ. Adding more reach is always appreciated. When Possible i'll be adding a tc 14III to my bag. I'm not sure what lens I'll have in the future but it will be +200mm.

I use the tc14-eiii on the 80-400g . It works very well on
A D810 that can focus at f8. Down 1 stop IQ is quite good, ok wide open but stop down if you can.

It is enough better in this combo than the tc14-rio that I kept the new one.

It will never be mistaken for the 400/2.8
