Is there any chance that Nikon will be updating the 24/70 lens with VR any time soon?

    I would doubt it as well. Nikon has said many times it doesn't beleive moderate Tele to wide lenses under F/4 don't
    need VR. The 24-70 is probably a few years away from being updated as well.

    The Tameron that PitchBlack mentioned is a very nice lens. That is probably the best option for you.

    Funny how they put VR on the 16-35 though. :-/
