I know I am a bit grating by repeating myself regarding the multi exposure technique regarding increasing dynamic range. Yes the tree legged thing is a bit cumbersome but it keeps your gear rooted in place and it really is part of photography. it is standard equipment even if you have a D810.

You just got to use those three legged things and then you will learn to love them. Those legs can be adjsuted in so many ways.

Then you see those "amateurs" with a nice camera and/or lens mounted on a cheap tripod. I swear you can see them move in the wind and vibrate when touched. Those cheap ones should are a waste of money.

    Some additional points to consider.

For landscapes, when possible, a stitched panorama with a longer lens will give better resolution and dr than any single frame. A 3 high and 9 wide (in portrait mode) with your 7100 will yield a 400+ mp image after overlap and cropping. You can use a longer ( I like 85mm in FX or 55mm in DX) for greater subject magnification and stitch for frame width.

A stout tripod and nodal pano rig (see RRS) is best but modern software can stitch handheld images reasonably well (I use autopano).

For landscapes I prefer a good pan tilt head on a leveling base to a ball head. Check the scratch long lens head which is really a pan tilt for still cameras (most are designed for video).
