@WestEndFoto how about adding the softbox you just ordered? Now that I remember I saw a photo on flickr with the same softbox and sb-910 of a flower shot. Thats what convinced me to order mine. The white flower above i used the rogue flashbender above camera if memory serves me well. Its ok but I would preffer the softbox for the controlled light.
Good idea. Still en route sadly.

The RC1 kit is very good but quite pricey. @proudgeek: What softener do you use with the RC1?

"For someone with a D7000 on a budget, the 85mm f/3.5 or the 40mm f/2.8 (both DX lenses) would be a nice intro to macro shooting."

    Indeed.
    Always learning.

Agree with these comments. I just could not justify the RC1 and watched eBay for 2 months and never saw a good price for a used set.

Spraynpray, it comes with a diffuser (as well as colored gels). It's a little pricey for what it is, but I've had a ton of fun with it. I didn't buy the full kit with the SU800 commander, since my D800 works as a commander.

I will add the price has come down on the 105 last time I checked. I got mine refurbished for around $750 and you can get a new one for $734 on Amazon...probably a decent amount less used or refurbished. A steal IMO.

Here is another one with the SB400

Too bad for the OP, this has been an excellent thread. The only good thing is that people looking for answers on this topic will find this tread.

If anyone wants a primer on macro, Nikon of Canada has a nice video on it.

This is a very recent video, as it talks about automated focus stacking on the Z6/Z7.
