Just saw this.
https://www.lensprotogo.com/serial-numbers-of-stolen-gear-from-half-million-dollar-rental-heist/
If anyone is offered a deal that's too good to be true, this might be the reason. If you look at the link all serial numbers are shown.

Instead of putting a battery in your vertical grip try a GPS tracker ....diai it on your smart phone and you will get a map with the exact location of your tracker ...if its not been detected that is... for below $50 what are you waiting for .....

That equipment is on it's way out of the country by now. They knew what they were doing.

+1, but they are still only getting pennies on the dollar, and it's not even grey market, black market gets even less warranty :-(

    Pawn shop stuff?
But any reputable pawn shop would be keeping record of sales including seller's IDs and they would hold the item for number of days for i.e. s/n verification with the local Police dept.

    Pawn shop stuff?
I moved to Wisconsin almost 3 years ago. When ever a camera dealer or pawn shop takes in merchandise on trade or a pawn, the dealer has to submit the make, model #, and serial # to the State Police/Sherifs office and they run it on a data base. That takes 4 to 6 days. Then and only then can the dealer sell that item. It applies to all electronics, lens, cameras, etc.

Right, so how are they going to unload this stuff? The $500K worth of stuff will likely fetch no more than $20K or 4 cents on the dollar. This will have to be off-the-grid sales, you can't put it on eBay or any brick and mortar.

They will be sold right on the street or in another country.

And Craig's List in other locations. All sad but true.
