Hey Everyone,

I was looking at getting an ultra wide 2.8 lens for my D7100, currently deciding between the new tokina 11-20 and the older 11-16. The 11-20 looks pretty good, especially with the extended zoom range.

Has any one used or have the 11-20? is it any good? or am i better off getting the previous 11-16?

cheers

I was in nearest camera shop yesterday looking for the 11-20. Tokina has pulled their reps from the local camera shops so they no longer are a dealer for them. They are thinking of picking up the Sigma line because of the art lenses.

The 11-16 was on my wish list until the 11-20 came along.

I still hope to get one when I find one in stock. He spoke highly of the Tokina quality.

Seems to be no information on this lens. Hardly any reviews or impressions of the lens :/

No one else had any experience with the lens?

The lens looks attractive, and it's on my wish list, but for me, buying DX lenses is on hold, until either a) Nikon released a new DX-pro body, or b) I decide in which new direction, I want to go.
If you cannot find any comments from Nikon users, then try looking for Canon comments, as I believe the lens is also available for Canon.

Looks like the 11-20 is still in pre-order stage at B&H, so may be a bit early to be seeing many reviews.

Ah that could be why. Apparently it is available is in some Australian stores, assumed it would be availiable everywhere, usually Australia is behind everywhere else!!!

Well it got here this afternoon. My first impression is it is smaller than I expected but that is fine. It fits along side the 24-70 just fine in a Hubba Hubba Hiney. It feels solid in my hand. The focus clutch is easier to use than I had expected from some 11-16 reviews I have read. It will take me some time to get used to a wide angle. I am more of a telephoto guy. I got this for times I just cant back up far enough with the 24-70. I will try to give it some work by this week end.

    First impressions:

I have had a chance to use the 11-20 and think I am going to like it.

The focus seems quitter than I expected. Reviews of some Tokina's said they were noisy. This seems on par with my Nikon's for focus noise, speed and accuracy.

I have not done much pixel peeping. It is a very sharp lens at first glance.

The gap from 20 mm DX to 24 mm FX (35 mm DX I think) looks a little larger than I expected. Time will tell if I can zoom with my feet or get a fast prime some where in the middle of that gap.

I would like it to use the 77 mm filters but knew up front it would mean some new filters. (82 mm)

My usual carry lenses will be the 11-20, 24-70, and the 70-200 all f2.8. A bit heavy at times but think I can live with that.

Thanks for the feedback and user report! From what I've seen it looks like a really good lens.
