Seemingly not in this case! They say the purchase isn't covered by them (?) and it's outside the sellers return period. I emailed the seller anyway, telling him what had happened & requesting my money back. I await a reply - possibly more in hope than reality

I think it was BIN. Payment was via PayPal and it was about 2 months ago.

The cost of the cards is the least of the issues. I buy from good merchants and test before using because I do not want to come back from a trip that might have cost thousands or tens of thousands with lost images.

I did test the card (briefly) and it was fine. It was just that it died whilst in real use!
And I won't be happy until I get the card back from Lexar (hopefully in 1 piece) and I can recover the 'lost' images.

A secure erase will write to every address on the card, and a write speed test will detect counterfeits.
A lexar 1066 will write a 4 gb file in about 40 seconds on a usb3 interface. Counterfeits are always much slower.
