I've recently come into the world of photography and love my Nikon D610. I recently purchased a
Nikkor AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED lens and it's amazing. But I'm interested in extending the capabilities past 200mm.
I've been looking at the
Nikon AF-S TC-20E III teleconverter, but I'm unsure from my research if it's compatible with this lens.
The Nikon website:
http://en.nikon.ca/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/AF-S-Teleconverter-TC-20E-III.htmlUnder the 'Compatible with' tab', does not list this lens at all. But it also seems to only list AF-S lenses as well.
I'm curious if Nikon is just trying to push the AF-S lenses and not mentioning all compatible lenses. I'm fine if the AF is disabled while using this lens, I just don't want it to cause damage to my lens.
Can I use this teleconverter safely with my lens?
Sorry for the newbie question.

Based on the link you provided, you should be ok with the current TC20.

a general rule TCs work best with with primes

Others may obtain different results, but if anyone would like to have direct reference to an image, shoot me a PM....
Both of these combo's are clearly better than cropping the base lens without TC. The 400/2.8G VR and tc-20eIII astonishingly so.
The 200-400 F4VR (series 1) is not as good with TC's . I don't know why.
