Being the happy owner of the Nikon 200mm f/2 VRII, I am often left wondering if there is a filter kit available for that lens? For the 14-24mm there are at least a few kits on the market, and I have the FotoDiox Wonderpana 145 series, with CIR POL, ND, and UV filters. It would be awesome if I could buy a filter holder which I could attach to the Nikon 200mm, which allowed me to use the 145mm filters I have from FotoDiox:)
Bob, That lens has a plug in filter holder right up near the mount. That will unscrew and mount up a selection of filters. In fact I think that apart from the odd size you can swap the carriages over between filters for insertion.
A front mount filter would be pretty huge and expensive
I know it has the plug in filter, and I have a CIR POL for that, but I can't be bothered to get ND filters, if there is a way to use my 145mm filters from FotoDiox.
It can't be much effort to make a "pull-over" adapter with a 145mm step-up ring.
I looked into that, and unfortunately they do not have the schematics for the Nikon 200mm, and I do not have a 3D scanner to make one:(
The idea is good though, it would be possible to scan the lens, and effectively make a 3D print of a square filter holder. They do that for several other lenses, like the Sigma 20mm just out, which doesn't hold screw-on filters. So folks, if you have one of those, and a dire need for filters, then look at http://www.logodeckel.de/produkte/
For the Nikon 200mm I do have the option to use 52mm screw-in filters, and they are cheap. So cheap in fact that it is simply not worth it to find alternatives. I'd like to use my significant investment in 145mm FotoDiox filters, but alas...
