I think the D500 is a great camera. And when I test stuff, I am simply looking for what works for me. IMO had Nikon done the D500 with maybe 16 MP, I suspect we would be seeing a lot less noise, yet resolution would be superb based upon my previous crop sensor experience.
As most know, the noise comes up very fast in the shadows, or if an underexposure is created. While the D800 and D4 I shoot can be forgiving in these circumstances, the D500 is not. So, I guess I need to be certain I give plenty of exposure...for shadows.
Here is one at ISO 1800, heavily processed to correct multiple lighting sources, but IMO quite acceptable as to noise.
