With the 10% discount on Refurbished gear thru the Nikon site the D810 is $1979, a $520 savings over "new" & only $180 more than the new D750's current sale price ....
My question is, who here has purchased a factory refurbished body ? Did you have any problems ? and were you happy with the quality (including appearance) of the camera you received ?
Bought a second hand D3300 with 140 clicks ..turned out to be refurb but took off the sticker from the box and removed the red dot in the tripod mount and you cannot tell ...no problems with it . When you sell it it will get the same price as a non refurb. The D800 is my most hated camera and the D 810 my favourite so go ahead don't get the 750 ..24 mp +AA naha....
I've also had a good experience. I recently bought a refurbished D750 from Adorama and got about $500 savings. I was originally going to buy it new when it came out, but there were so many recalls I figured I should wait a while. When the opportunity to get a second body came around again, I figured a refurbished one would have all the wrinkles ironed out. When I got it, it looked practically brand new, the shutter count was only 144 and I haven't run into any issues after a month of heavy use. After this good experience, I'm thinking of only buying refurbished camera bodies from now on.
You can still get the grey market for $1999. The refurb only has a 90day warranty, and the grey is brand-new, but has none. You can add third party coverage for ~$150. Another option.

Hadn't thought of the grey market path ...
Which brings up a slightly differnt question re: 3rd party warrenties... Anyone got good or bad to say about them; in general or company specific ??
Seller is BuyDig, aka Beach Camera, and it is through eBay, so what can go wrong? I've actually bought 8 DX bodies (from D3200s to a D7200) with them and all have been fine.
Late yesterday afternoon i finally got the Nikon site to allow me to add a refurb'd 810 to my cart .... Before I could click on checkout my wife asked why I wasn't buying thru B&H or one of the other web-stores, by the time the conversation ended i was adding an D810 kit to my cart and waiting for sun-down today to checkout!
I'm sure it's going to cost me at some point, but what the heck, I've got a new D810 & battery-grip + some other goodies on the way!
