I have been using my D810 with no issues for a long time, but these last days the following happens regularly;
Mode is set to "A", I set focus using "AF-ON", and the sub-command dial is set to control Aperture, and as I turn on the D810 it works fine. However, sometimes the sub-command dial stops controlling Aperture, and the only ways to get the control back is to turn off and on the camera, or by pressing the shutter-release button. Following that it works fine again for a while...
Is the aperture lever inside the camera moving up and down OK ..you can watch it move with the lens off ..maybe it got bent with a clumsey lens change..?? Pushed in most probably ...time for the pliers ?
I checked the aperture lever and it moves freely, and looks OK. I cleaned the contacts, and all looks fine - but the aperture still locks, and the only wyas to get control back is to turn off, and back on again, or press the shutter-release button.
The camera works fine 50% of the time, taking pictures as usual. It’s only after a few minutes, I can’t control the aperture using the sub-command dial. And yes, I did the 2-button reset...

Find the two buttons with green dots on the body, press both of them at the same time and hold.
I did the reset, reluctantly... I saved the settings, but seem to remeber that something isn’t saved in the settings save, and don’t remeber what.
I’ll let you know if it did the trick...
???
Also, did you do a two button factory reset?
