New Nikon D850 Camera Porn :))

I happened to be in Avenues Mall in Muscat this afternoon and they happened to have 5 D850 bodies freshly delivered this morning! I opened one up, got blown away and took out the visa Khimji's Nikon distributor is world class to say the least. He still has 4 more bodies if anyone is in the area or can't wait any longer. It's a wonderful camera in every way:

It feels great to use! Nikon is going to sell a boatload of these.

Nice pics, but the camera looks ugly on the to of the mirror box. Strange design choice.

It looks just like the D5 I think.

I think it's closer to the D5 than any other Nikon body. Just switch the D850 and D5 markings around and the self timer lamps on opposite sides. Grip of course too and extra function button on left. What do you mean top of the mirror box? If it's the area around the top of the camera (sensor) it is very similar....

I like that new carved out look - due to lack of pop up flash. I always thought that rounded look of the Canyun 5DMk.... was goofy looking for a modern camera.

Sorry I mean the top of the pentaprism. I rather like the rounded look, the sharp edges just look like some wannabee retro look from the 1970's.

Is it really one stop better than D810 like mentioned in some articles ?

Out of the camera jpegs...most definitely; Raw - jury still out. My guess slight improvement at higher ISO's if any. Because at default settings, the D850 appears to better expose pictures and capture colours better, your default RAW files should generally require less work.

Abhinav, Photography Life has an article about this. There are some very significant improvements in shadow recovery and really high ISO. See there D850 review.

You are right there is an astonishing amount of detail in the shadows that can be pulled out. You can really see the resolution in distant features in an image especially with the newer 24-70 VR. I am very happy so far. It looks like I will be selling off my D810. I have to admit I hate the touch screen though. I kept bumping it in live view and nosing it when composing. I have to go through the settings to solve this issue. So far it's my only gripe.

Got the chance to take our new D850 bodies our our recent trip to Ireland, pictures at the links below for those interested. @kanuck I'm actually a fan of the touch screen, haven't had too many issues accidentally using it yet, though time will tell. I like the implementation for menus and live view shooting. Our D810 bodies are already back at Adorama waiting for them to return from holiday so they can get me the trade in money, I'm all in on the D850

I have been really happy with my d7200 but.... I was starting to think about a second hand d4 but noooooow.. I'm starting to eye the d850...

Yes, go for the D850 instead of the D4.
