Whats everyone thoughts on this, do you think it's in the pipeline? canon upgraded there's and seems Nikon is lacking here with the new hi-res cameras for such a hugely popular prime lense.

I think it is, but likely not imminent. I am thinking that this would be a good addition to my "portrait set" to complement a 58, 105, 200 and 400.

I am thinking of buying the new 28 1.4E rather than waiting. The new 28 is a good wide angle portraiture lens. It is the sharpest Nikon prime shorter than the 105 with the "possible" exceptions of the macros and 19 PC-E. Certainly the sharpest lens short of the 105 suitable for portraiture.

I would prefer a super sharp 35 by Nikon though.

Hard to say at this point, the current model is 7 years old, which is getting close to EOL (10 year average cycle for pro glass). The primes do tend to have longer cycles, most likely to due to lower demand, but with cameras like the D850 around the need for faster update cycles might be required.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.
