Over the next few days I will post some examples from a session with the Z6 and the S 50mm f1.8 lens shot at f1.8 and ISO 640 (LED constant lighting to take advantage of the WYSIWYG in the EVF) for anyone interested to examine. I think the lens is sharp with nice bokeh. You can examine the images in detail and form your own opinions. Just click through to flickr where you can examine the larger sizes. This is my first experience with an EVF and I am liking it a lot.

Once you click through to flickr you don't have to wait until I post more images from this session. Six images from this photoshoot (the girl in the yellow dress) are now on my photostream. This was a session with just the 50mm f1.8 shot at f1.8. I want to do another session with the 35mm 1.8 and one with the 34-70. I shot a few images with a D4 for comparison. You can see from the compositions that quite often the D4 focus points did not fall on the face while the focus points of the Z6 did. No need to focus and recompose with a Z body. I liked that a lot. It seemed to me that at this distance and subject size the 50mm at f1.8 provided sufficient depth of field, which surprised me. It also seems to me the S 50mm f1.8 is sharp enough at f1.8 and the sensor has enough pixels to zoom in and see individual eyelashes. That also surprised me. Once you check the full size images on flickr you opinions may differ.
This is the 50mm f1.4 shot at f1.8 on a D4 for comparison with the S 50 f1.8 shot at f1.8 on the Z6. (I just purchased a D4 for $1,600 with 10,000 clicks on it, finally down to a price I could justify spending.) Of course, the Z6 sensor has 8 more megapixels so that could have an effect on the sharpness of the eyelashes but I still think the new S 50 f1.8 is the sharper lens at f1.8. I have read that the new S lenses are optimized for larger apertures. Click through to flickr where you can find the full size images for comparison.
