Nothing new there, they aren’t even the first. Eye detect in the optical finder came in with the D800 or D810, IIIRC. It’s basically been on all the upper end cameras since then, including the D610, D750 etc. Don’t think it’s on the entry level bodies.
Like users in that thread mentioned, it’s no magic tool, it would be good in a pinch, or for someone just leaning to use a high end camera, but no match for putting the focus point where you want it.

Thanks Capt it was news to me but getting mixed in with the Z6/z7 firmware update news...birds eye recognition would be the thing to have . The fred Miranda post needs reading end to end and some notes taken on what menu item to engage.
