So no nikon are suggesting that you must identify yourself before you can turn the camera on . What rubbish, they should put there effort into making the mirrorless focusing work 100% before filling the camera with bullshit functions.

The idea ( Nikon patent) is to have a camera lock which prevents it working (anti theft) released by pointing the camera at a pre-arranged object. I suppose its good if you put it in the safe and point it at a graphic on the safe door when you take it out but knowing nikon it will be badly implemented..lock up in the field or when you change the battery . If they must why not a keypad that comes up in the display when its locked to enter a release code. The word " disable" comes to mind
I don't think the same engineer making this feature will be the same engineer working on autofocus. Any new innovations like this are a good thing, personally it would be nice to have a way to brick a lost or stollen camera and lens remotely.
