There's a 20% off refurbished deal going on now too. Brings the price down to $4250 or so.

Reviving an old thread because I am looking at this lens now. Nikon USA has it new, but it is pricey. They currently do not have a version 2 in refurbished, but they have a version 1 (which I think they are pricing too high). If I get one it looks like Ebay is the way to go (since I can't afford the new one). I just checked Really Right Stuff and they make a nice replacement tripod foot. (I have their feet for my 70-200 f2.8 E and 500 f5.6 PF and they're great).

Agree, the RRS replacement tripod feet are excellent. Over the years I have purchased 3 for different lens. Much stronger and I love the lower profile.

Like mhedges, did not know that their was two versions of this lens. I have sold most of my telephotos lens on eBay and agree that that is a better solution than paying the new price. Be sure to ask the seller to send you a picture taken with the lens.
