The F mount nikkor is very old now; I've heard the build quality is top notch but optically it's pretty dated. I think there are some decent Sigma or Tamron options.
One of my concerns of using the F-mount adapter on a Z-mount camera is the torque and stress I'd be putting on the Z-mount over time, especially with heavier lenses. I decided against going to mirrorless Nikon cameras because of that. Nikon really hasn't done much with DX mirrorless and hence my reluctance to go that route when I upgraded. Shame, because all Nikon could have done was to do a super Z50 to accept EN-EL15 batteries and make the grip the size of a D7500 and throw in some faster lenses I would have willingly upgraded.
Late to this, but the Nikkor 16-80 f/2.8-4.0E comes close. Lots of love for that... of course variable to f/4, alas.
Back when I had a Z7, I frequently used my AF-S 16-80 f/2.8-4.0E. Optically, that combination returned some fine results for me. I only have the FTZ and generally I think the tripod mount on the FTZ just adds weight and gets in the way. Someday I'll replace it with an FTZII.
My DX camera is still a D7200. If I ever retire that and go to a ML DX Nikon, I'll keep the 16-80. Not near as compact as the 16-50, but the faster lens would be nice.

Not sure if you are concerned just about the durability of the Z mount on DX or the Z mount generally. I've detected no hint of weakness on either the Z8 or the Z7 I traded for the Z8, with or without the FTZ. I've used heavy lenses like the AF-S 14-24 f/2.8, the AF-S 70-200 f/2.8 VRII, and the AF-S 80-400 f/4.5-5.6 on both Z bodies (as well as the D7200).
