Refurb vs New

I'm looking to get the Nikon 24-120 f4 VRII.  I can get the refurb for about 300 under retail from a major online retailer (not sure if mentioning the retailer is allowed).  In you'll experience do you see any downside from buying refurb over retail other then the warranty being only 90 days?

Thanks

I would think a refurb might even be better.  The lens is basically recalibrated by hand  And it should perform flawlessly.  At a discount of over 20% this looks like a deal.

Get the Refurb...  I've purchased a lot of referb and never have had a problem...

I have 3-4 Nikon refurbished items.  All have been flawless and all looked and worked like new.  I wouldn't hesitate to get it or recommend them to anyone.

Well done :) I have only purchased 3 lenses new: 35 1.8G, 70-200 2.8 VR II and the 85 1.8G...every other one was from a privet seller. I'm always after the best deal I can get my hands on. Refurbs have always been on my radar.

I also would have suggested the re-furb, and wouldn't worry about the short warranty. Just make sure you give it plenty of use during the first three months, so that hopefully any problems show themselves. The only thing in my experience that you have to look out for with a re-furb, is not receiving all and any accessories (like the lens hood) that would normally come in the box of a new example. With the saving you're making however, you have more than enough in hand to purchase them separately.

Thanks SkintBrit, I checked the listing before I got it and it comes with bag, lens hood and front and back lens covers so I should be good to go.

    Specifically, *slobber*:

Not "refurb", but "appears as new" at B&H.
Different from refurb, or same diff?
