Ok ladies and gents after much deliberation, I finally went ahead and got this amazing tool. I now kick myself for waiting so long. Forget the novice way of taking a picture @ f/22 of the sky or other clear surface in order to see the dust spot or other foreign object on your sensor...and then doing it again and again after you cleaned your sensor to make sure you did get it right. This bad ass tool make ones life sooooo much easier...specially those of you that own a D600 or D800 that have had some oil/dust spots on your sensor. With this tool I was able to clean both my D4 & D7000 in 10 minutes...and I mean my sensor is CLEAN! There is not a single object on my sensors. Forget the cost...you will thank me once you get it.
This looks very nice... I did have a laugh when they said it "creates a 3D view" of dust on the sensor, as a light and magnifying glass only shows what is already there...in 3D....
I have the same nice tool. You have to keep in mind that if you see the sensor sharp, you do not see the dust sharp. The dust sits slightly above the sensor (on the AA filter), you will figure it out when you move your head slightly up/down.
The D7100 has no AA filter I also tried to adjust sharpness, there's a thread in the magnifier to adjust focus. Sometimes they deliver cams without specks, I'm afraid. To confuse customers.
it was more of a general post, no specific reaction to your post. I just mentioned it because initially I could not find the little creepers with this glass. The 7100 might not have an AA filter, but I would assume that it has a protection of that type without the AA effect. I don't think they would expose the bare sensor, unless they are looking for a boost in sensor replacement sales.
I think the prices for a good lupe can range from a few dollars up to five hundred dollars. I have one which I paid about $150 for and that was twenty years ago.

Once I was in the movies, they put a note on the exit doors "now you can take your goggles off, real 3D from here"

But I didn't detect oil-spots, so it probably is out of order.
Almost forgot: That was meant as joke.
that was another joke, sorry.

I have cleaned my D4 once and am about to do another cleaning at 20,000 clicks.
Fogging up the sensor did not help in my case (might be my breath though )
