Anyone managed the 8mm f/8 fisheye on D800?

I just bought a D800. Looking at Ken Rockwell's site he has his 8mm f/8 fisheye mounted. I tried (very carefully) to do the same without success. Seems like the invasive part is just too big.

Has anyone actually managed this?

Not wanting to risk damage to either, obviously.

In his article on this lens he mentioned that you need to lock up the mirror and also that the lens is listed as incompatible with the D800. So you most likely need to lock up the mirror and make sure it does not come down again (e.g. when you switch off the camera etc). This might damage the mirror and is not under warranty.

This lens will require modification of the mount to avoid damaging the electrical contacts. In addition, as Corelli has noted if the mirror comes down on the lens....most likely a problem.

You might be better off to modify a 10.5mm f/2.8 or use a later model fisheye 8mm f/2.8.
