50mm f/1.4 D AF loose and rattling

Checking out a D7000 and a 50mm lens that a friend is selling. I have a bunch of lenses including an old MF 50 f/1.2 and a 50 f/1.8G, and I've never seen this before. On this lens when you focus, the inner barrel of the lens extends, but if you shake it or grab it, there is 2mm or so of "play" between the inner and outer barrels of the lens and kinda makes a rattling noise when you handle the camera.
Can someone else check their copy of this lens? Seems not normal to me...

    My 50mm f/1.4 D is fine.

I think I am loose and making a rattling noise when I handle the camera.

I suspected impact damage may have occurred. Hey, that's what the Dr said about my aching ankle too...

That is a bad motor gear - can tell that one from experience from a 50mm 1.4d and a 24mm 2.8D. Exact same "slop" in them. No one will fix it either as the parts are no longer "newly" made, and the cost will be the same amount as the lens is worth.

It is from a lifetime of whacks on stuff. ;)
