I see a very small but minimal improvement from D610 to D750. If it were the only difference between the cameras the D750 wouldn't be selling like hotcakes (now it's back in stock :\"> )

I would like to sack the marketing department at Nikon - they've crippled the D750 bracketing facility to the point where it is sad. OK, you can bracket lots of frames now (whoopee) but only full stops above 1 stop (1,2 or 3) and also, when exposure compensation is used it's effect is not shown as an offset on the bracketing scale which is displayed on the top screen while setting up the bracketing. This is dumb-assed for sure, Canon have had that since the 7d1 at least - along with 1/3rd stop bracketing increments.

Perhaps this is one for the mythical firmware updates?
    Always learning.

I ordered the MB-D16 Power Battery Pack for the D750 on January 21st and this morning received confirmation from B&H that it will ship today for delivery on March 12th. It's been a long wait.

Still waiting on notice from Nikon Service that they have completed the flare recall. Perhaps I will get lucky and get both this week.

I waited for the wife to get home and then I did my 2 mile walk. I was gone 5 minutes and the UPS driver delivered two boxes. I am really happy.

From the day I took the D750 to the UPS Store to the UPS delivery was 13 days. I am really happy with that turn around time. Read more about this here:
    http://forum.nikonrumors.com/discussion/3850/d750-service-advisory-official-announcement#Item_80

I have unpacked the MB-D16 Battery Pack. Tomorrow will check it out and will post comments.

The MB-D16 battery grip is very nice. Used it this morning for a lot of pictures. When secured to the camera there is no movement between the grip and the camera. Similar quality to the D300 and D200 battery grips.

For in studio use, you pull out a door to allow the power cord to exist the battery grip. No issues with buttons or rotating command and sub-command dials. Lock button is a little stiff but that should loosen up over time.

The battery grip is excellent for vertical shooting. The only change I would like to see is the depth of the grip on the MB-D16. It's shallower than the D750 grip which I love. It's probably similar to most Nikon grips but you would have though they would match the depth of the D750.

I read your message and laughed. I am fast, but not that fast. LoL :D Clarification, five minutes after I left the house UPS delivered the boxes. When I returned home after my 30 minute walk I had two boxes to open....bet you knew that. :D

D750 owner's, can you tell, how D750 work with older Nikor lenses, sigma and.....?
  • calengorcalengor Posts: 277Member
@faateris older meaning what? how old? @Hammie may be able to give some input, I know he's using at least 2 AF-D lenses with his D750.

When you say "sigma and..." do you mean how does the D750 work with older sigma and other brand lenses, or just how it works with sigma and other lenses in general?
  • HammieHammie Posts: 258Member
@faateris - calengor is right. I am using 2 AF-D lenses. I have the 35mm f/2D and the 50mm f/1.8D. If you are talking older AI or AI-S lenses, I cannot help you there.

I have not compared them to the newer AF-S equivalents but I have been very satisfied with them.

I feel they are fast, focus well in low light, are small and light.

On the down side, they can be a bit noisy, purple fringing around lights is a common occurrence, and they are soft in the corners.

Here is my flickr set for the D750 + 35mm f/2D combo:

Count another user as D750 owner. Traded my D800 in for it, no regrets so far. Keeping the old D700 as a backup, since it's not worth much these days.

Day 1 thoughts: I like the lighter body, grip, far snappier and accurate AF. The shutter is way quieter than my previous cameras (aka D300, D700, D800). The viewfinder blackout time also feels a little shorter, but I cannot say that with certainty. Do I miss a dedicated AF-On button? Err kind of, but not really. What I will really miss is the round eye-piece and built in shutter curtain. Might miss some of the cropping room, but 24MP seems to be enough, even for the wildlife I shot on my first outing with the camera today. 1/8000's shutter? Looking at my EXIF data, no shots over 1/3000s in the last 12 months, so I think I'll be okay. :D Slower flash sync? Not really, I'm not a big flash user and Auto AP has worked well enough for me in the past. Tighter AF point spread? Not yet, but I'm sure I'll notice it a little when shooting portraits.

    Congratulations!

the only thing is that I am not sure will trade out the D800 instead of the D700+money...

is your D750 show up the black dot?

I traded in the D800, because it's just not the right camera for me, and I found the AF system rather lacking, even compared to the D700. That and the store wouldn't even give me $500 for the D700 due to the high shutter count, so it just wasn't worth trading in.

The D750 I got has the black dot on the box, and I checked the Nikon website with the serial number, to be sure, and it's clear.

@PB_PM - the black dot maybe on the box, but I believe that JCTibu was asking if there was a black dot on the inside of the tripod socket on the base plate.

When they fixed mine it came back with the black dot. The early ones fixed by the factory also came with a black dot on that base plate inside the tripod socket.

@Photobug No there is no black dot in the tripod socket, I checked. As noted I also checked Nikon's site and they said my serial number was not within the range of recalled units.

Lucky you, you got a later unit that was fixed before they shipped it. That is good for you. The units fixed right after the announcement were marked with a black dot.

@Photobug Most likely fine from the factory, but Nikon did put a black dot on the box, as noted as a sign of the unit not having the issue. The dot is a sticker, seems like it was added after the fact, rather than something printed originally.

Well.. the black DOT outside the OEM box I think it is more than enough to prove it is a good D750.

Yup, I am enjoying it. Very nice camera, and great battery life, as advertised.

I wasn't even concerned about the flare issue, since I knew that new units would be problem free. Actuality kind of forgot all about the black dot thing until you mentioned it. :D
