Camera body dilemma

My D200 body is still working, but my rear lcd just died. All but 1 of my lenses are fx - so I do plan on upgrading. Just did not plan on doing it this soon. I shoot all the genres. My question is at what $$ amount is it not worth repairing? The D200 came out- 8yrs ago? I can use my F5 & shoot film in the meantime. What is a worthwhile expense to fix my D200 or is it time to save up for a fx body? Thanks

Trash the D200 and get an FX body which can use your lenses. You will be happy with it. Big mistake to try to fix a D200 as it is just to old to be shooting with. Even its replacement the D300 is too old and the D300's replacement the D300s is also too old to be shooting with these days. Long past time to upgrade for you.

Yea, you're not giving us enough background information to really give you good advise. I mean, why not just go ahead and buy a D4s, it's worth it ;)

I'd also look into D7100/7200 as well...

Why do you need a rear lcd? On your film body you do not have one.

    Im with MSmoto....

If budget is an issue you can get another used D200 off ebay for $200. If you want fx a used D700 will run $800 off ebay. Considering how little a used D200 is worth (they are fantastic cameras still tho & I still use mine) it isnt worth getting it fixed.

Some who upgrade from D200 to newer CMOS cameras end up missing the CCD look of the D200. That should not keep you from upgrading. But maybe you should keep the D200.

D800 is still a great camera and can be had for at good price now that the D810 is out.

As mentioned before, I did exactly that, henrik1963, a used D800E. And, my intention was to shoot the DX format, but, I fell in love with the results of all those pixels....and the ability to crop wildly and still have phenomenal results. Here is the center of what on most monitors would be about a 15 foot wide image:

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/fantinesfotos/16630532826/sizes/o/

This is shot at ISO 100 and has noise as a result of the enlargement of nearly 40X.

Thus I support the idea of a used or refurb D800 as a "Substitute" for the imagined D400 or the upgrade of a D200 (which I once owned BTW)

I am one of those .. was a little bit distracted with the colours of the Nikons from the D300/D90 up to the D7000/D7100/D3s but my D610 is really nice :-) like the D600/D750. The Df and D4/s is slightly different but also very nice and the D800/D810 is different again but really nice too.

@crizman if you do upgrade go for the latest batch of DX (D7200/D5500) or the D600 and up..
If you want more details I am sure we can help if you provide a budget and info re your lenses

I think I would see if it was possible to fix on my own but yeah...you can buy a used one for what it will cost if Nikon gets their hands on it. It is 3-4 generations behind now...it is probably time to update/upgrade anyway.

@crizman-I would not repair the D200. Sell it for parts on eBay and go buy a FX DSLR. Until we understand what you shoot and what your budget is; really hard to make a recommendation.
