Will Sony's new FF 42MP 4K BSI sensor from the new A7RII be on the next D810 replacement?

Not quite the 50MP Canon came out with, but BSI promises even higher low light performance and probably wider DR than what's already available from Sony/Nikon sensors. Also, this sensor is fast enough to sample 4K uncropped. It's again compromised by Sony's insistence of limiting RAW files to 12 bits. Great things to come from Nikon if they end up using this sensor on the next D810 replacement. What you guys think?

BSI on a FF is definitely a game changer. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Nikon take this design and add their own secret sauce, an Expeed 5, and make a killer FF. I might actually join the FF fanbois if this comes true.

Looks like Sony got it right, again, at least with the sensor itself. Another here today, gone tomorrow camera not worth the price tag.

While Canon drives for MP alone Sony likely wanted to go for balance, slight increase in pixels, while either maintaining or extending dynamic range of the previous generation. Sony win, Canon loose. Too bad Sony only offers compressed RAW.

I too look forward to seeing what Nikon can extrapolate from this sensor. Each generation of Sony sensors has preformed better in Nikon cameras than Sony ones, so there is no doubt that will be the case again.

If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

The lack of any native FE mount lenses in the Sony or Zeiss lineup that are worth buying is a bigger problem than their oddball 11 + 3 rounded compression.

I am using Leica lenses on a Sony A7II with good results, but none of their AF lenses present as good a quality / price ratio as their Nikon or Canon counterparts.

Fuji's machines are less capable than Sony's , but their lenses are uniformly excellent.

I haven't had any situations where I wished the photo was taken in 14bit Raw. If I pushed the shadows 5 stops on the daily than perhaps I'd yearn. Would be nice to have it of course.

The new 399pt AF system could be the game changer. Phase AF on Sony's smaller adapter it seems...maybe metabones, etc. as well.

The important thing must be that the BSI technology will now become available to many future DX and FX sensors. I cannot see why this wouldn't spread into the entire model range, we just don't know the pace. If it's expensive, then the high-end will be first, of course.

No reason to consider Sony until they offer true 14 bit color.

The sensor doesn't determine that, the engine does. If nikon grabs this sensor, you can bet it will be at least a 14-bit engine strapped to it. Think expeed ;-)

I have heard that it will be "soon" but that's from a sony fanboy so I am not sure when :-)

Dunno.. I think a D620 or D760 with a 42MP BSI sensor would be darn cool.
