Using third-party F adapters versus the FT1

Hi folks, has anyone used a third-party F adapter to use FX and DX Nikkors on N1 camera? There is an annoying exposure time limit with the FT1 that doesn't allow exposure times longer than 1/3 sec, and I was wondering if that limitation is not present using third-party adapters. It's not clear to me if the limitation is embedded into the body firmware, or if it's a combination of the FT1/body.

So basically what I'm asking is if you can make exposures longer than 1/3 sec with your third-party F adapter. Thanks for any info on this.

The only third party CX to F adapters I have seen have been manual focus/aperture only, just transmitting EXIF. No idea if they allow longer exposures, but for astrophotography manul focus might work. However, I must point out that the 1/3 limitation is not much of a limitation - simply up the ISO and stack the photos in Photoshop.

I don't agree. It's a limitation, period. It's also a deliberate one. However I found my answer by setting the mode to manual simply removing the lens. I was able to set it all the way down to BULB with no lens attached, so the firmware in the FT1 is the crippleware. Had I known that I would have never bought the FT1. At least I picked it up used for $130, I would've really been livid if I had paid full price for this piece of crippleware. I just ran across a manual adapter for $11 on ebay, so be it.

What Nikon 1 body are you use it on? I don't recall such a shutter speed limit when using the FT-1 on a N1 V1.

Hmm that's interesting, just tried it on my J4 and it limits it to 1/1.3 with the adapter added.

Sounds like Nikon put some firmware things in place on the "J" models, rather than a limitation of the Nikon 1 system.
