Complimentary pocketable camera to D810

Anyone have any suggestions on an affordable complimentary camera to a D810? I'd mainly like to have something I can have on my wherever I go, but have good IQ. The Coolpix A seems like a nice camera with a good price refurb, but is a few years old. What else is out there? Nikon would be preferred, but as much as I hate to admin it I'm not biased (ok maybe a little I love Nikon gear!)

I've been very happy with the Fuji X100s. I also find the D810 with 24-85VR pretty manageable - just less so when I add more lenses.

Quite happy with the Nikon1V1 and 10-30 ... thinking of getting the N1J5 for nicer IQ, more features and smaller or AW1 for really going everywhere ! Was just in a drenching summer shower and wishing I had an AW1...

Was just looking at the N1 32mm f1.2 yesterday ....

Nikon J4 in a firesale deal from buydig. Its what I have and its great for for the role of a pocket camera ( I keep mine in a little neoprene case on my belt ) 10-30 lens is great, lack of sharpness is overblown by reviewers. The 60fps burst mode is great, and can be used to grab 20 frames of a static subject which you then combine in photoshop as a smart object, which gives excellent image quality and dynamic range for landscapes/sunset/sunrise. The auto mode is fantastic, I quite literally shoot mine from the hip when I am with my kids and it grabs correct focus and exposure 95% of the time. The biggest problem is the sensor performance at high iso, it quickly degrades the image. For web images Facebook downsizes pics so agressively, I did tests comparing shots from my J4 and D810 and they are indistiguisable after facebook works its grunge on them.

I have the underwater case and it works really well, I have taken in in the sea, in the swimming pool with the kids, on sandy beach holidays, kayaking, pleaces I would never take my DSLR and never once worried about the camera. It is bulky though, so I would consider getting the AW1 version as it cuts down bulk a far amount.

Strange I had the oly M10 and the EZ 14-42 would not say its pocketable and I sold it within a week the image quality was so bad. Nice solid camera just 16MP and an AA filter killed it for me...D7000 quality/

We are very happy with our Nikon 1 AW1, and as we have the adapter for f-mount, we can use our professional lenses as well... And it is waterproof.

Following this topic. I want a camera smaller than a DSLR for street photography. Something that may less intimidate human subjects.

I use a Coolpix A because I want to keep my Picture Controls consistent. It does fit into a suit or blazer pocket better than a Nikon 1, it has a larger sensor than a Nikon 1 which allows for better high ISO. Of course, you are limited to a 28mm equivalent lens but that is ok for interiors or scenics. I just crop to get an image more equivalent to 50mm or 85mm but you won't get the same bokeh as an 85mm f1.4 would give you. Truely pocketable means some compromises in ability. The 16mp sensor does allow for some cropping. The DX sensor in the D500 looks really good. I do hope Nikon puts that sensor into a followup of the Coolpix A and adds a modest fast zoom. I would like to get from 28 to 85 equivalent at f2 or however close a compact lens can be made. Even a 28 to 50 equivalent f2 would be worthwhile.

Seen some bad user reviews of this camera saying that its "very grainy" and "worse than the Iphone6" .. Is this correct or just trolls ?? or User error ?

otherwise it does look good though..!!

For years I have used a Nikon P7700. I like the features, button layout and of course it shoots raw. The best camera is the one you have with you, and this one is always with me, even when I go to work.

My wife has the Nikon 1 J1 and just go the J5. Wow, big, big difference and Nikon 1 game changer. It's lighter, does away with the lens cap for easier use (10-30) and is stunningly fast. She can brag that she's got Expeed 5 and I don't (until I get that D500). The Nikon 1 70-300 is also a real winner and the 6.7-11 pretty remarkable.
