D810 USB tether wear.

Hi all, I've been using a D810 pretty much permanently tethered in the studio for the last year or so and noticed the usb ports on both camera and the mac are getting very slack and loose causing connection failures. I've gone through a couple of replacement usb leads (Tethertools rt angle type) and wondered if any one has actually managed to ruin their usb ports this way and how much it would likely cost to repair?

Are you using the supplied plastic clip in strain relief ? Just curious as I do, and run tethered a lot, and its never been an issue. I also loop and tie the cable to the arca L bracket

Hi Nikoniser, no I don't use the little supplied clip as it only seems to fit the short usb lead supplied by Nikon. I think the problem is caused by switching from portrait to landscape regularly. I'll have a look at the Arca brackets, thanks for that.

I use a "Andoer Vertical Shoot Quick Release L Type Plate for Nikon D800 / D800E / D810"

Which is a really nice fit, the curved bottom matches the bottom of the camera perfectly, and the holes clear the flaps/usb mounting just fine.

Less than 20 quid too.

That looks like a very sensible solution. On back order at b&h. No sign of anyone distributing that in the uk, not surprised, the U.K. Photo industry is almost entirely consumer oriented now but that's another post.
