@Hiker I agree - this is not a case of GAS - the two series are significantly different, and offer different elements.

@Andrewz In a nutshell "the D750 is such a good camera for what I do I really see no need to upgrade" - you seem to be in a minority!

It's almost like I'm in a different Universe with the 7200 vs the 3300!!! Now to get a decent zoom lens!!

@Photobug - isn't it more reasonable to exploit the camera you actually own? I have a great deal of difficulty understanding this constant desire to have more - when the current model is usually considerably more powerful than the user ever needs IMHO.

Cameras are tools - they do not make the images, the person using them does.

Respect your comments. However, in my case I have mastered this camera and looking for improvements to up my keeper rate in the AF system and shutter speed and FPS.

:-) "I have a great deal of difficulty understanding this constant desire to have more " LOL !! yup but the "WANT" strong in this forum... NAS rules many threads here ! :-)

+1 Heartyfisher. NAS has to be contained or it can run wild. I was at a photo outing today with 58 photographers at all different levels. Never seen so many Tamron and Nikon lens covering the 150 - 600 range. There were two 200-500mm lens.

A gentleman shooting a D5 with a Nikon 400 F/2.8 lens offered it to me to shoot on a beautiful gimbal mount. That was a lot of fun shooting the Lion's head. Took a few pictures and am looking forward to seeing it on the screen. No NAS for me on the lens but the urge is there for a gimbal mount.

GAS-Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a real thing......

Oh is this threads about the D7500 ;-) I still think it makes sense, not as a replacement of the D7200 but more a realignment of the whole line up of cameras. But if you wanted a small light DSLR with the sensor out of the D500 and the processor from the D5... pretty nice camera on paper, can't wait to actually touch it!

I agree with that assessment Andrewz. It's really a realignment not an upgrade. Some people will upgrade for NAS while others will look and pass. For me, the D7500 makes no sense over my D7100.

So 1/4000s and 6FPS isn't enough for you - good grief what do you photograph?

AndrewZ says: "I still think it makes sense, not as a replacement of the D7200 but more a realignment of the whole line up of cameras. " Exactly correct. Nikon is in the process of realigning all their DX and FX bodies and soon will add the mirrorless FX and DX bodies we have been waiting for. Most recent rumor is for a D820 this summer with better low and high ISO than the D810. Maybe native ISO from 50 to 25,600? Or maybe just cleaner high ISOs? We should soon see. But the point is that whatever technology (sensor and software) Nikon puts into the D820 will also find its way into a mirrorless FX body with probably one stop less high ISO in a mirrorless DX body. So even if Nikon's mirrorless doesn't make it until next year the cameras announced this year will portend the future for Nikon's mirrorless bodies.

My guess is that Nikon better do something really fast to assure their customers are not going to be abandoned. The D500 was one of their best moves. As was the D7200. The D7500 was in my judgement a move towards creating doubt! I doubt I would buy one at this point in time. Maybe the hands on review will find it better than it looks to me right now? The abandonment of the second card slot was to me problematic! Not that that feature has ever saved any day for me. Nikon I believe has NO CLUE what their customers want or need. They think they can dictate......all it will get them is declining market share! I seriously think they would be better to start reading (maybe they do? ) but their product line doesn't show much expertise at the DX level.....in fact it is there they display their lack of vision. Might as well introduce their D7500 as the...I Am A One Card Wonder!

The D500 may be "one of their best moves" but "do something real fast" ? It took close to 8/9 years for the D500 to succeed the D300.. Good things take time in Nikon :-)

Reviewing my post I feel that only use and reviews of others on the D7500 will reveal the worthiness of that soon to be delivered DX Nikon. And heartyfisher is completely right that things seem to take a long time when Nikon rolls these things out. DX is NOT though a good place to shirk!

DaveyJ, I agree with your post. If I were in the market for buying a replacement for my D7000, I'd probably get the D7200 if it were still available.

I don't know, but the D7500 is starting to grow on me. The new metering sensor, extra FPS, expanded buffer, and auto-AF fine tune are appealing. I wonder if you can use the touch screen to select the focus point like on D5500?

Serious question - people seem to be very interested by the extra FPS - may I ask why this is SO important please?

For action shots of course. I mean, 5fps is ok normally, but action shots often (at least for me) have a certain amount of luck involved. Once I eliminate the out of focus shots, and then trim down the remaining ones to just the ones with a good pose, I'm lucky to maybe have one or two shots left. Having 50% more shots to choose from would be a big help I think. Of course, improving my technique would probably help too.

Shooting 4fps I often wanted the one that would have been between them. Now at 10fps I am pretty much satisfied.

I was a very heavy-handed D7200 naysayer when it came out to market, due to the seeming lack of advancement over the D7100. Until I actually owned one. The D7200 was all that the D7100 should have been from the start, the D7100, as good as it was, felt beta-ish compared to the D7200, which feels much more mature, IQ and control-wise. When the D7500 came out, I, too, felt betrayed by Nikon taking away the dual card slots and the magnesium skins, I really felt like it is more of a D90 replacement than a D7200's, but in the end, so what? Canon does the exact same with their 80D and those sell like hotcakes, and their owners are all happy with it.

Nikon totally trounced the 7DMKII with the D500, and their aim is similar with the D7500 against the 80D, although these bodies still stride the fence btw being video-centric and stills-centric (I believe that Canon's DP AF is perhaps of more value to videographers than a heavily cropped 4K frame, OTOH Nikon's 3D AF is light years ahead of Canon's 45 point AF), so their aimed customers are still somewhat different.

The D7500 does have a pair of features I expected the D7200 to have: the D750's deeper grip and a tilt screen. Although Nikon has stated that the D7500 shares its image pipeline with the D500, I still hope that they have tuned it for better performance at lower ISO so as to make it as good or better than the D7200's stellar performance in this regard. Even barring this (it's all conjecture from my part, seeing that Nikon always tweeks the imaging pipeline, even between different bodies sharing the same sensor/processor combination), the D7500 has got enough goodies for me to look forward to buying one. Of course, much will have to do with how the reviews paint it.

Thank you for that honest answer. It's a bit like the mega-pixel race - I personally can't see the point, but if it floats your boat...

Just waving a camera around shooting at 5 or 6 or 7 FPS (for 97% of photographic needs) is just lazy in my book, but then what do I know!

"You know nothin... " .. sorry just waiting for GOT ... sigh ...

re D7500 .. its growing on me too... its got a popup flash... The D500 has AWESOME AF but my D7200 (I replaced mine with the D500) had great AF too.. and the new D7500 AF is better than the D7200. I really did not have an issue with the D7200 AF while I had it. In fact it was great!.

As for the second SD card? yeah its a pain (for my peace of mind) but with snapbridge (which I have been using with my D500) I do get a backup onto my phone. not the best backup image but still a copy that can be used if the card dies..

I wont be getting a D7500 cos I have a the D500 but it would be a really really great kit I think.

Re the FPS 8(D7500) vs 6(D7200) When I tested that 6FPS on my D7200... I was a bit disappointed .. it never got to 6FPS at best it was 5 maybe 5.5.. Also the 18 frame buffer may have been "best case" cos my D7200 started to slow at about 7 (skip a beat). Still It wasn't an "action" camera and 10 Frames in a row was more than enough for me even if it skipped frame 7. So it will be interesting that they improved that in the D7500. (and my D500 is way overkill for me !! LOL have not even tested it... )

It's probably because the D7200 can only do 5fps when shooting 14bit RAW (page 67 of the manual), just like the D7100. It'll only do 6fps when shooting12bit RAW or JPG. If the D7500 can actually do 8fps 14bit RAW it should be a significant improvement.

    Edit:
The manual isn't available yet, but the D7500 product page does say the following:

"Capture 8 frames per second continuously, up to 100 JPEG Fine frames or up to 50 14-bit lossless compressed RAW frames. With up to 50 RAW shots captured, continue taking photos even while the previous RAW images are being written to the memory card."

So now the official release date is June 9th. I just bought the D7200 from B & H yesterday. Coming from a D3300 it is a major step up. I've been trying one out from Costco. Taking it back on Thursday when the B & H one arrives. I don't need all the extras in the kit.

As for the D7500, this camera also would be a huge step up from any low end camera, whether it's from Canon or Nikon. One card slot? So? I have that on the D3300. I took my D3300 to South America for 3 weeks and no issues and I shot 1800 pics. No battery grip? So? I have two batteries. An issue for some? Sure. 3 mega pixel difference? It's not that big a deal to me. I

think many of us forget that we use to have 1 mp cameras at one time and when a 3 or 5 mp camera came out it was a WOW! Any who, we shall see what reviewers say and how it all pans out compared to other cameras. Not trying to start a "war", just giving my thoughts.

@Hiker - nice job putting that in perspective. Not surprised the D3300 did an excellent job in South America.

Let me add that I talked to Nikon USA yesterday, Monday May 22nd around 10:30 am my time 1:30 pm NY time. I had asked about a release date for the D7500 and they said they had none that it looks like it may be released somewhere around the end of June or in July. This am I wake up to the news that they are releasing it June 9th. I find it very hard to believe they didn't know exactly when a release date was. Would that knowledge have swayed me to buy the D7500 instead of the D7200? Quite possibly!!

To Hiker: Unless you are using this camera for a lot of video, or shooting at a fast pace, I think you would find the D7200 very very good. I doubt that the extra price of the D7500 would be worth a month more wait. If I buy that second DX body (I own the D7000, D7100, D7200, D500, if I add another since there are more than one user here...it would probably be the D7500. But we know the D7200 is awesome, and reviews would be important before springing for a D7500. Having used Nikon's Call Center a lot......it has far less advance notice than Nikon Rumors....very useful, but NO notices on anything before the official release data. That is exactly why Nikon Rumors is almost a necessary connection for many of us. Best of luck with your D7200. It is about my favorite camera. And yes the D500 is unbelievably good, but it is more money. And no onboard flash.

Thanks DaveyJ! Yes from the D7200 I've been trying out it is an amazing camera. Picking up my new 7200 I bought from B & H from our local UPS facility in about an hour!! The money I'm saving with the D7200 I'm looking into new and better glass.

I have a D500 and if I get another DX it will be the D7200. D7500 to me is a crippled D500 though still a good camera. D7200 is a different horse for a different course.
