D200 - Lens compatibility

Hi, I bought an AF-P 10-20/4.5-5.6G DX VR for my D200 and the shutter does not work (no pic is taken).
With my AF-S 18-200/3.5-5.6G IF-ED I have no problem.
Maybe the D200 works with AF-S and not with AF-P ?
Is there anything I can do ? Thanks for your help.

Take it back and ask to swop it for a different lens...
Will it work in manual even if only at the max aperture.
At the 10mm end you will be pushing it with that sensor...

Maybe now is a good time to consider upgrading the body as well?

If that's not in the cards right now, your only option is to select a different lens like the older Nikon 10-24 f/3.5-4.5G (although that lens is as expensive as a new body), or one of the Tamron/Sigma/Tokina offerings.

    D7100, 85 1.8G, 50 1.8G, 35 1.8G DX, Tokina 12-28 F4, 18-140, 55-200 VR DX

The D200 will not work with any AF-P or lenses with the ‘E’ designation at the end of the title. The only safe bets are older AF, AF-D and current AF-S ‘G’ leneses. Many third party lenses should work as well.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Just buy a D3300, D5500 or D5600 and you are good to go. The quality of that sensor will be a massive upgrade over your D200.

But those cameras don't have some features of the D200, such as dual control knobs or the top plate LCD, so usability might go down, depending on how he shoots. D7200 seems like the closer match, although even that is not fully compatible.

I agree on the new sensor though. I was looking at the measurements between D200 and D7200 and the difference is quite astonishing - more than 3EV greater dynamic range and at least 1.5 stops better noise, not to mention the better tonal range, etc.

Then it is down to money or ergonomics. But if the lens does not work, then the ergonomics are bad regardless of what you have.
