D850 FIRMWARE UPDATE ..ANY IMPROVEMENTS ?

PistnbrokePistnbroke Posts: 1,768Member
I am always wary of firmware updates once finding my 3rd party batteries and grip did not work anymore .I take the policy if its working leave it alone but did anyone find any improvements particularly those that might help a bird photographer ?

We are the only two on NR that own a D850 even though the price for a body is down to £1900.
It seems the snapbridge is sorted as you can use alternatives .

I updated mine, no problems but I didn't try snapbridge as I don't use it.

No improvement for 3rd party software, Nikon blocks everything.

I use Snapbridge with my phone and tablet (you can only connect one at the time), via Bluetooth. When the Z6 is connected, your photo's are transfered quick to your device in the resolution 1620 x 1280 JPG's, enough for control and for internet share, works fine.

From the egg heads at Nikon Gear..
On the contrary, this update makes it possible to directly use third party software to control the camera and transfer files with wifi, bypassing the Nikon Snapridge software that was previously required to establish a bluetooth connection (and only then, wifi).

Sounds interesting. @Ton14 - how about giving us thicko's a plain English step-by-step procedure for getting it to work with Android? I think I now have a need to upload small .jpegs so it would be useful to me (and others I am sure).

@Pistnbroke OK great, but the Z6 is still the same after the firmware update on this.
@spraynpray OK just wait a little.

After Snapbridge installation on your Android device.

    1. In the SETUP MENU on the camera klik "Connect to smart device" - "Pairing Bluetooth" - OK
You get a white screen with a message and your camera serial number.

    2. On your smartphone Set Bluetooth "ON".
    3. Start Snapbridge - "Make connection with the camera".
    4. Choose your camera model from the list.
    5. Wait till you see the connection is made, (takes a minute).
You see a number, which has to be the same as the number you see now on your camera.
    6. click OK and done.

You only have to do this once.

You can switch off your camera anytime, it will automatic make the connection again when you switch your camera on.
I always switch it off when I don't use my camera and also switch Snapbridege off, saves batteries.

In the Snapbridge menu (top left) you can set where you want your files.

Can you not give us information on the Z6 this is a D850 thread .Its not always clear if you are talking Z or D
Go to Nikongear.com and ask your question re the D850. read the posts and ask the egg heads in Sweden .

@Pistnbroke I have the Z6, but I gave a reaction on the firmware because the Z6 and Z7 had a firmware as well, I only compared the firmware updates, no problem I'am out..
