I am planning to buy a zoom lens for my D7000. I'm on a tight budget and confused between two lenses. Nikkor 70-300mm,f 4.5-5.6 ED VR 2 and Tamron AF70-300, f4-5.6 Di LD Macro. looking at my budget Tamron suits me. But I'm worried for picture quality. Please help me out.
Nikon D7000/ Nikon D5200 (Planning)/ Nikkor 50mm f 1.8/ Nikkor 18-105mm f 3.5-3.6 kit/ Tamaron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di VC USD.

    Hi,

The Nikkor is for either DX or FX and gets high quality marks for an inexpensive lens - it's the one I have. The Tamron, not so much.

    My best.

Nikkor hands down. Look for refurbished ones - those prices are much lower.

Picture quality. (IQ) is not the only thing to look at when buying new lens
Speed and accuracy of focusing are important, Tameron's may be a tad slower to focus
build quality on a Tameron may not be up to Nikon's
and if you are likely to change lenses in the future, look at second values
many old Nikon leneses sell on e bay for more than they cost new

Why not consider the newer Tamron 70-300 Di VC USD instead? Cheaper than the Nikkor and you get the money´s worth as they´re equally soft in the long end. With the Nikkor 70-300 VR you pay too much for too little IMO.

I have the 70-300VR and find it too soft after 240 or so. If I could, I'd swap it for a 150-500 Sigma or similar.
    Always learning.

comparing the two lenses go for NIkon, up to 200mm is excellent, above that it's only fair but remember that the biggest thing in photography is to have joy with taking the snaps.

i have the tamron and i think its pretty good for the price, i bought it so i dont have to carry my 100-300 f4 all the time, ive used it for Motorsports in the past and the focus speed is not an issue, birds in flight can be tricky

this shows the focus tracking is decent.

My suggestion is always to buy the best glass you can afford, even if it means delaying the purchase for awhile. Rarely does anybody complain about their high quality lenses but plenty complain about those lenses with noticeable shortcoming that are reflected in the images.
    Occasionally a decent image ...

Thank you all for feedback. I have purchased Tamron 70-300mm, f4-5.6 Di VC USD. Its better in terms of softness at its longer end and the VC is much better then Nikons VR. Thank you again for helping.

rananishant I have been saving for some time now so I can get the 80-400mm and as some have said buy the best glass you can afford, that to me is save for however long it takes. I still need about 7 or 800 $ more so I am thinking about what I might be able to give up. Maybe food (how long can one live on body fat). I have cut back on a lot of things and is not really that hard and have saved over $2000. Good luck.
