U.S. vs Japanese model

I have seen a camera listed for sale by a Japanese distributor. Is there a difference in the build quality between a camera sold in the U.S. by a U.S. distributor & one in Japan? Do you know if there would be any additional import duties & taxes?

I do not recall if it was Nikon, but I have seen differences in firmware between US and non-US camera versions to were separate updates were released for each, and the update for non-US would not install on cameras for the US and would 'brick' the device if one tried.

I am not certain that this is an issue for current models but always source my firmware updates from Nikon US.

I have seen differences in Recording Time for Video due to VAT / Import Tax reasons along with frame rates depending on whether they are targeting PAL (25 Frames) or NTSC (30 Frames) contries

Most of my gear has come from Japan because everything is seriously overpriced in Australia. I don't think there's any difference between the Australian and Japanese models. You can download English manuals. From memory, lenses have an international warranty and cameras come with the Japanese warranty. Ive sent cameras back to Japan for warranty repairs. Nikon Japan doesn't screw you around.
