Can only say well impressed with the low light capabilities of this camera, Using in low light situations in gymnasiums can be difficult, but not with this camera
Image was taken in low light [Image looks brighten than it was} ISO 4000 and fast moving targets.

    ISO 8000...hand held /w 14-24 2.8..simply amazing!

ISO 12,800....again hand held /w 14-24 2.8...speech less if you had seen the setting (a cave inside a mountain) that this was taken in.

That train shot is so good, it's ridiculous. I'll shoot my whole life and not get an image in that league. The framing, the perspective lines, the exposure, the whole thing just works.

Agree with shawnion...the train shot is outstanding in every way. Love these engines.

Msmoto this is a winner. Please share more trains. Thanks for posting the ISO value. Impressive.

Thanks, guys….a little story. I was riding my Suzuki DR650 around, the D4/20mm f/2.8 in the rear case. Saw the train activity, parked the bike, walked across the with riding suit on, grabbed several shots. The funny part is what I looked like….see my image on my Flickr page

the one next to my name. And, I will try to grab some more train shots…..like with very long lenses….

I would like to see a D400 made for that also (low light- fast action) at less than half the price of a D4.

Of course, most people would. The likely hood of a DX sensor being that good is slim.
If I take a good photo it's not my camera's fault.

Yes, slim chance. Seems like DX sensors will always be at least one stop behind fX sensors at high ISO Yet, just one stop off the mark set by the D4 isn't so bad! We can hope Nikon is waiting for some nascent sensor technology to come to fruition in a D400 sensor.

It's nearly a month since I took the plunge and invested in the D4. I have used this camera in very poor lighting conditions without any flash or tripod use. The camera as never failed to amaze me in the low light situations. It as been used in Boxing gymnasiums, which are renowned for low light, and are sometimes found in not the best of area's regardless of country. The D4 is proving to be a sound investment allowing images to be taken which with a normal camera would be impossible.

I know that feeling all to well. Now if you want to be blown away, slap on a 24 or 35 1.4 and shoot wide open :)

Not got those lenses Golf007sd, whats the speed of focus on these lenses, I tend to use the normal 3 trinity. Have the 50mm 1.4 A great lens, but its too slow to focus for this kind of shooting.
