Tamron 17-50 With Nikon D7100

I am planning to buy the Nikon D7100 without the kit lens. I was thinking about buying the Tamron 17-50 lens. There seem to be two different versions of this lens on the market, and I was wondering if anybody has experience or advice on which one would work best with the D7100:

1. Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] - which is the internal motor driven version
2. Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II VC LD Aspherical (IF) Lens - which has an internal motor and the vibration compensation

The older lens without the internal motor is no longer available. I would appreciate some advice on which lens would work best with the Nikon D7100. Mostly, I intend to use it as a standard walk around lens.

Thanks.

VR is in most cases very useful.

All the Nikon lens work well on the D7100. Even though it does not have VR, I like my 17-55mm F/2.8. It's great for many photo opportunities.

Both tamrons are decent. The one without the VC is older. I believe that there is no difference optically between the one with Motor and the one without. However the one without the motor is faster to focus.

The VC version of course has the VC stabilisation. but its larger and heavier and I belief its not as sharp as the older one.

Both of these are cheaper and not as sharp as the sigma 17-50 F2.8 OS.

If you dont need stabilisation then the older tamron without VC is a good choice. Also consider the super sharp 18-35 F1.8 Sigma which is also not stabilised but is currently the sharpest and brightest lens in this range. It really is head and shoulder above any other DX normal zoom in terms of optical performance. The drawback is that ist big and heavy no VR and the range is less than the others.

One more third party lense to consider is the Sigma 17-70 F2.8-F4 OS.

The only input I will make is consider the distortion correction side of PP - if you buy Nikon, you get it with one click in Lightroom. If you get the Tamron...?
    Always learning.
